yikes. I guess it’s all well and good , I’ve got nothing against fast SUV’s. But given it’s got a RWD platform, it’d be cool if they offered a model with some additional off-road features.

Track ready rwd minivan, sign me up.
Oh, nevermind, it doesn’t have proper sliders.

Exactly. I mean if we’re gonna do towards this trend of SUVs, I’m glad we can have some that are powerful and drive decently. However, seeing “Track Pack” just made me cringe a little. There 0.05% chance someone is gonna track or autocross their Explorer.

Yeah, a Sport Pack would make more sense. Or a High Output pack. Or whatever. Just not something that implies track use.
Durango might be even worse? They actually say “R/T” on their badging.
And there’s probably a .5% chance they’ll take it off-road, but at least an off-road package on an Explorer makes sense, given the vehicle type.

Not that I approve of Ford doing this... But I was just wondering how the Kona would handle AX with some sticky meats (like Hankook Ventus S-3s or General AS-05s...)... It pulls .88g on the GoodYear Touring Plus it comes with... Is the CG low enough to stay upright with that much grip ? The suspension and chassis dynamics are really quite surprising...

Imagine hitting 0.93 G’s in this bad boy with the kid in the back are playing happily on their iPads!

Now that is a good question. Sticky tires and turbo motors sound like a good combination to me!

Forget the ST, this should be a solid family SUV.
https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2020-ford-explorer-hybrid-detroit-auto-show/
T he drivetrain combines a naturally aspirated 3.3-liter V6, traditional torque converter 10-speed automatic transmission and electric motor with a 1.5-kilowatt hour lithium-ion battery pack. Total output punches in at 318 horsepower and 336 pound-feet of torque with a top speed of 123 mph. Fuel economy figures aren’t yet available, but will surely be measured against the 30 mpg city and 28 mpg highway EPA estimates of the Toyota Highlander Hybrid.Ford says the hybrids will not suffer from any off-road limitations compared to its pure gas counterpart, and is only slightly slower than the 2.3-liter turbo model to 60 mph.

I imagine that the only time this thing will hit 0. 93gs is while the driver is playing games on an iPad too.

I don’t know how I feel about moar “ sporty” SUVs. I mean, for some reason I like the ones Porsche make, and I think the Mazdas are the business, but Porsche and Mazda are known for sporty cars.
Even though Ford makes Mustang, they’ve been thought of as a truck manufacturer for decades.

The proof will be in the pudding!
I’m personally hoping for a model with offroad chops though! Explorer FX4 or something.

I actually thought about putting this in the post, but I am arguably more excited for the Hybrid than the ST. You always see these SUVs crawling around in traffic, so more hybrids make perfect sense.

Does it come with a roll cage? You’ll need one.
